Lewis Land, Australia’s oldest private property developer, is proud to announce the launch of its first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) for 2024-2025. This significant milestone marks the beginning of a journey to enhance awareness, appreciation, and engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures across the organisation. Endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, Lewis Land’s Reflect RAP is designed to:

  • Prepare the organization for meaningful engagement in reconciliation
  • Increase staff and leadership understanding of significance of reconciliation
  • Build relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders
  • Identify areas where Lewis Land can create meaningful impact

Brett Draffen, CEO of Lewis Land, expressed enthusiasm for this initiative, stating, “We are committed to fostering inclusivity, promoting cultural understanding, and strengthening our connections with the First Australian communities whose heritage and wisdom enrich the land on which we own, manage, and develop.”

Key focus areas of the RAP include:

  • Developing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organizations
  • Enhancing cultural learning to increase understanding and recognition of Indigenous cultures, histories, and rights
  • Exploring opportunities to improve employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Establishing a dedicated RAP Working Group to drive implementation and governance

The RAP journey began with a cultural competency session for Lewis Land’s executive team, sparking strong support and a collective desire to build authentic and meaningful actions. The company has already initiated efforts through programs such as Support in Sport, Celebrating Language & Culture, and an Australian Bush Tucker and Reflections Garden.

Karen Mundine, CEO of Reconciliation Australia, welcomed Lewis Land to the RAP program, saying, “This Reflect RAP enables Lewis Land to deepen its understanding of its sphere of influence and the unique contribution it can make to lead progress across the five dimensions of reconciliation.”

As Lewis Land embarks on this important journey, the company looks forward to fostering positive relationships within the communities it operates in and contributing to Australia’s broader reconciliation efforts.

Lewis Land’s RAP Working Group includes team members from various roles across the organisation and our First Nations advisors, who are all working together to implement meaningful outcomes.
