Harbour Town Premium Outlets Gold Coast is thrilled to announce an $8 million transformation of its western mall precinct, marking the next stage in the centre’s continued investment in customer experience and the future growth of the northern Gold Coast.

The Western Mall upgrade will deliver a greener, more comfortable and vibrant open-air shopping environment, which Harbour Town is known for, with works designed to enhance the precinct ahead of the busy Christmas trading period.

The investment comes as Harbour Town continues to experience increased visitation and as the surrounding northern Gold Coast corridor prepares for significant residential growth over the coming years, including nearby developments such as Harbour Shores. Together with the recent Light Rail announcement, the upgrade reflects Harbour Town’s focus on ensuring the centre continues to evolve as demand for accessible retail, dining and lifestyle destinations increases.

The $8 million upgrade is significant and will refresh the precinct from the Tourism Lounge through to Kathmandu, as well as the west-to-east crossover mall leading towards Polo Ralph Lauren.

Designed in collaboration with award-winning architects and builders, RPS Consulting, Crest Project Management and Buchan, the project will create a more inviting open-air environment, with upgraded ground surfaces and lighting, a new custom-built playground, new seating areas, lush landscaping, water features, enhanced shade and greenery, refreshed finishes, feature columns and a potential new food and beverage kiosk location. The new playground has also been designed with customer feedback in mind, following consultation with Harbour Town customers to better understand what families want from the space.

Harbour Town Centre Manager, Greg Day, said the investment reflected the centre’s long-term commitment to creating a destination that meets the needs of a growing region.

“Harbour Town is one of the Gold Coast’s most loved retail destinations, with over ten million people visiting each year, and as that visitation continues to grow, it is important that our centre experience continues to evolve with it,” Mr Day said.

Mr Day said the northern Gold Coast was entering an important period of growth, with surrounding residential development and future transport connectivity expected to support increased movement through the area.

“The recent Light Rail announcement is a major step in improving connectivity across the northern Gold Coast, and this investment will help ensure Harbour Town continues to offer a high-quality and welcoming experience as the precinct evolves,” Mr Day said.

“By working with leading design partners and listening to our customers, we are creating spaces that are not only more attractive, but more useful, comfortable and enjoyable for the people who visit Harbour Town every day.”

Stage 1 of the project commenced this week, with works to be delivered in stages to minimise disruption to retailers and customers wherever possible. Retailers will remain open and accessible throughout the works, with construction programmed outside centre trading hours where possible.

Mr Day said the transformation would help bring the western mall in line with newer areas of the centre. “We are confident this project will bring the western mall precinct to life and create a more comfortable and attractive environment for both customers and retailers,” Mr Day said. “We appreciate the patience and support of our retailers and customers while works are underway, and we look forward to unveiling a refreshed precinct ahead of the busy Christmas trading period.”

The Western Mall upgrade forms part of Harbour Town Premium Outlets’ continued investment in the centre experience as it strengthens its position as Australia’s largest outlet shopping centre and a major retail, lifestyle and tourism destination for the Gold Coast.
