NAIDOC Week celebrations are held in July each year to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Lewis Land’s retail centres have been participating in different ways to help build more inclusive and culturally aware communities.
At Harbour Town Premium Outlets on the Gold Coast and Adelaide, displays have been created to promote the language and culture of the local Yugambeh and Kaurna peoples. The centres have collaborated with talented Yugambeh artist Isabella Eurell, whose captivating “People of the Sun” design takes centre stage. This artwork illustrates the sun’s universal warmth, symbolizing unity among people under its radiant rays.
Sovereign Place Town Centre has taken a hands-on approach to NAIDOC Week celebrations, hosting an interactive school holiday event. Young visitors were treated to an immersive cultural experience, participating in Indigenous storytelling sessions and Boomerang Art Workshops led by Aunty Debbs.
These NAIDOC Week activities underscore Lewis Land’s commitment to reconciliation by fostering cultural understanding and appreciation for both our staff and our visitors to the centres.
